Black Tables

Contrast: The key to using black furniture

Black is an imposing color and is often used in the corporate world for everything from dress code and computers to tables and furniture. While black computers, black chairs and black tables fit just as well in any office setting, placing black furniture in a home setting is a bit more challenging. This is because black is also often the color associated with death, depression and night. However, a naturally black piece of furniture like an ebony hardwood cupboard or wardrobe can lend a good bit of body in a room, particularly one with a light or white background. The contrast in particular helps to highlight the solidity of the black furniture while making the rest of the light background and room seem more present.

Quite often, the best way to use black furniture is to position it as the point of contrast in a room. Going all light, white and pastels may be easy on the eye but it also makes the room dull and forgettable which can be good if all you're looking for is a bedroom or place you can doze the day's troubles away in. Likewise going completely black with a dark background and all black furniture can lead to a really depressing room which could be just as appealing to some Goths but pure headache and migraine inducing to most people. To achieve a good effect with black furniture one must always remember to use it in combination with lighter shades either from background color or from other pieces of furniture.

A black coffee table makes for a very good point of contrast in a living room and acts as an overall anchor at least in terms of the visual effect you'd like to achieve in the room. Likewise going for a black or dark teak dining table inside a dining room or kitchen also makes for a very good anchor inside either of these rooms. visual anchors such as black furniture help to make the room look clearer and more solid.

Quite often, looking for black furniture can be quite challenging as its not enough to get a corporate black office table thats just been painted black and chuck it into the living room. Not to say that some black colored furniture are not good, but for the most part naturally black furniture is the way to go, so looking for an ebony hardwood or dark teak furniture is your best bet, not only because these furniture pieces look good but are also solid and enduring. Still, if you must go for the non-wood black tables then going to a designer furniture shop for a solid plastic and aluminum furniture set wouldn't be too bad either. For this type of furniture always remember to place function over form, as you don't want to get a chair that looks great but makes your behind ache every time you sit on it.
